One of my most embarrassing moments

This story dates back to circa 1999-ish. I remember being in 4th grade around Christmas time when it happened. I went to Walmart with my mom, and while she was doing her little shopping I did was any other 10-ish year old would do--I high-tailed it to the toy department.

I found this really cool gaming chair sitting out in the middle of one of the isles, and I had nothing better to do, so I tried it out. I thought I was cool at the time rocking in that chair. There weren't many toys you could play with so that was the most entertainment I could find. Mom was ready to check, out and we left.

I went back the next week, but this time with my whole family. My parents were looking at Christmas decorations, and of course my inner grinch wanted no part in that. So I ventured back over to the toy isle to find that chair I had been sitting in the week before on the bottom shelf, not out in the isle. It was a tight squeeze to get that chair to fit upright on that bottom shelf, but it fit. I still wanted to rock in it. Do you blame 10-ish year old me? I was tiny, so I could still fit in the chair with it on that bottom shelf.

I climbed in the chair and proceeded to rock. Except, when I rocked backwards and then forward, I pushed upward and unhinged the shelf above me. That caused a chain reaction to the shelf above that and so on. I saw what I had done, but since I hadn't moved the shelves were still in tact. I knew that any moment was going to send the entire isle crashing. I sat for a minute trying to figure out how to get out of it without getting beaten by my parents for taking down, what felt like at the time, the entire store. I waited for some other kid to come by, I asked him if he wanted to rock and let him take my seat. I held the shelf just long enough for it to look like he did it and ran. That half of the isle came crashing to the ground.. or so I remember. (Then again, 9 or 10 year old me probably really exaggerated the moment, and I also didn't stick around to take in the damage). I ran as fast as I could back to my parents hoping they wouldn't find out about the crash until after I was back with them and then think it was me..

I joined back up with my parents. I was 50 shades of red. I was freezing going up until that point, and I had to take my jacket off. I just knew they could tell something was wrong, because I couldn't have been acting normal. I cannot explain how embarrassed that had just happened. I still hope they don't think it was me.

Go ahead, laugh it up!
